Alice is a Purbrook Heron design that was conceived by Hugh Rossiter and Charles Purbrook at their yard in Christchurch. Having previously only built smaller open boats and dinghies, the Heron was big step forward. Canoe stern version with a nice spoon bow and full length keel. Centreplate operated on a block and tackle helps improve sailing performance and reduces draft for sailing up inland waterways and rivers. Full width coachroof creating raised topsides, much like the well known Harrison Butler designs, gives plenty of internal volume and lots of deck space, with a small dog house incorporating the entrance hatch for extra headroom.
Designed and built by the Rossiter yard in 1964 this is a particularly nice example.Condition Description:Alice was built in 1964 by Rossiters Christchurch, whose recent 12 page survey said she shows signs of careful ownership. The survey is available to serious enquirers. The engine was serviced in the spring (2017) and two new 12v batteries were fitted. The Yanmar 10hp engine can push her along at 4-6 knots easily, the 10 gallon Stainless Steel Diesel tank lasts almost the complete season. The boat is solid, safe & dry and has given the current owners many happy hours of sailing and maintenance in the quest to retain its high standard.
"Sadly age has caught up with us and we now wish to see her move on to younger, enthusiastic sailors," confess the sellers.Brokers CommentsAlice is a Classic Gentleman's boat, beautifully balanced and a joy to helm for anybody from novice to expert.
