Description:
For sale is my Ray Wright Delta - An increasingly rare classic ski boat This is a fibreglass model from the 1960's or early 1970's I believe. It has the original Ford 1600 cross flow engine marinised with Lancing Marine raw water cooling. There is plenty of information about these online and the Classic Motor Boats Association are very helpful too. I have owned this twice so I have a bit of recent history: I bought it originally in 2009 when it was in its original orange gel coat and needed a full refurb.I got as far as stripping and cleaning the engine, getting it running again, changed the clutch, prepped and painted the hull in good quality 2 part paint, upgraded the trailer etc. I then moved abroad in 2014 and sold it at that point to an enthusiast who did a huge amount of work to get it truly seaworthy. He did a more thorough engine rebuild, re-upholstered, changed all the electrics guages etc. And also upgraded the cooling system to use 22mm copper pipework with shut off valves to allow him to tweak the flow on the water. And he moved the oil cooler / heat exchanger to a more accessible location. He then sold it to a very wealth person who had it sitting on their personal lake (as you do). It was being professionally maintained mechanically but took a bit of a beating aesthetically (you can see the watermark on the hull and it has had a few bits of paint added with a brush etc).I then saw it up for sale again and bought it out of pure nostalgia knowing it was hugely improbably I would ever get around to doing anything with it. And now I need to be realistic as I've just bought a new house so it is even lower down the priority list! In terms of current condition - everything is there. I changed the oil last year and turned it over a few times just to keep it fresh. It was turning over freely by hand up until this summer but now won't.I haven't spent any time investigating why and whether the engine siezed or just needs to be freed up. At the very least it will need a bit of work to the electrics to get it running again. But I can't promise it won't need more (carbs, engine rebuild etc). The trailer hasn't towed any real distance for a couple of years but looks OK. I will check the bearings for any play or resistance before anyone picks it up.Any questions please let me know. And viewing is welcome / encouraged (Epsom, Surrey)On 17-Jul-21 at 19:35:38 BST, seller added the following information: Just to add - there are a few spares and bits going with it. From memory the original dashboard, original steering wheel, unopened head gasket kit and unopened carb refurb kit. And a cover. On 18-Jul-21 at 18:48:39 BST, seller added the following information: I inspected the wheel bearings today. One was ok the other the bearing had gone. Rather than just replacing the gone bearing I'll fit new hubs and bearings before it is collected just to be on the safe side. On 21-Jul-21 at 20:32:36 BST, seller added the following information: Just to confirm...brand new hubs and bearings fitted today so should tow fine for whoever wins the bidding
