Engine Make: Yamaha
For sale is my Richard Woods 'Skua' cedar strip fibreglassed (super light & strong & durable boat building method best for one off's not production as too slow & expensive) which I purchased about 2 years ago. It is currently in my rear garden as she is demountable so winters she can be trailered home and those odd jobs can be done that you'd otherwise never get round to. Plus she gets to be out of the water and you don't have to pay for a dry mooring space. This boat has the perfect pedigree of being British designed and German built! This boat is the one that appears on the well known designers (Richard Woods) website https://www.sailingcatamarans.com/index.php/designs-2/3-25ft-to-30ft-catamarans-designs/175-skua and is a rare model to have here in the UK but well designed to cope with our coastal waters.
The smaller 'Strider' Catamaran is very popular but is not as capable at coastal sailing as this boat was designed as a step up from the Strider also having more rocker built in to handle swells. Sadly since purchasing her i've not had her in the water. Last year my business had to take priority due to rapid growth with a big project for a national company. Once lockdown finishes we are on to another one for them so i'm making one of those life decisions to drop sailing and get myself a push steer & go motor yacht. Don't need to feel sorry for me I still have 3 sailing dinghies I can get my fix on!
When I purchased the boat she was on the hard and mid way having a new cabin fitted to the deck as per the original designers addition plans for these boats. This provides a huge increase to her living areas and due to the already massive deck space does not impede her use. In fact with some weather protection afforded from the new cabin it should improve her as a cruising boat drastically. Although she has already crossed the Atlantic & been through the Caribbean with her original builder. So current status is: - Standard boat is demounted with all bits at our home.- This could be rebuilt as it and launched in good condition pretty easily.
Just rudders to fair, paint & fit. There will be lots of small jobs that I am sure need to be done to make her perfect, but the great thing about this boat is you can remove sections which makes them easy to handle & fix them at home. I've had the beams in my heated unit where they have been repainted over winter...could not have done that outside.- I have removed forward hatches, repaired, repainted & refitted...Perspex just needs sealing at present but should get that done this week. Will be using Butyl to seal which is the best material to use.- Couple of parts to refit which were removed from beams to enable fitting of new cabin. One aluminium extrusion needs replacing although we have the old one but it got damgaged when removed from boat by previous owner.
It is a simple U section with some cutouts that any machine shop could make up cheaply. Or you could attempt to straighten it, or straighten it as you affix it if you wan to save money... but personally i'd just get a new one made.- I purchased an excellent condition Yamaha 10hp High Thrust which is the recommended engine to use on this boat. Fully tested on my fishing boat comes with remotes and electric start - no need for elec tilt as engine bay has it's own tilting system. This is an extra and not included in the cost of this auction. See below for prices of extras.- Very good condition used Carbon mainsail as the main I purchased for her last year to get the full potential from her (boat was still hitting 16 knots with a poor condition dacron sail).- Has a mix of foresails & one very large symmetric spinnaker.- Comes with netting to front, all cleaned up and looks to be in good condition but I have never fitted this.- Beams removed, checked over, paint touched up where necessary.- I have not rigged her but have laid out all the bits and looks like she comes with all lines & blocks necessary to sail.- I am happy to deliver her on my trailer within reasonable distance, further I may consider at cost but please do contact me first.
There is an option to buy the trailer for the boat but again this is not included in the price listed here. I have multiple sale options which you can choose what you want but I really like the trailer and use if for other things too if not required.- Boat sits on 2 yard trailers. These can then be pulled up onto a tilt bed trailer for transport. They can be manoeuvred on their own, or bolted together for transport so possible to use boat as dry sailing kept at Marina.- There are 2 anchors and chain suitable for use on this boat.- There is a large canvas cover that was specifically designed to fit over the central cockpit when moored to give a lovely big living space at anchor or in port.- There are no electrics with this boat so all battery, fuse board etc... would need to be purchased. There is the original one with the boat but i'd put new stuff in to modernise it.
If i've not binned it you are welcome to it all.- Interior foam is there for both rear bunks in each hull. New foam required for forward bunks and central pod. - Old covers are there for boat to have new ones made or guess you could refit old ones to begin with. I've not taken these out of their bag to look at all. Just like this she would make a great boat.
But in addition: - Boat was part converted by construction of new cabin for deck, this per photos was a fully built shell fitted onto boat but no final paint coat and no interior fit out. I would also say windows could do with being replaced with thicker perspex before any heavier weather sailing.- Cabin measures about 2m by 2.5m with room to sit at table, converting to bed. - New Cabin shell is complete, bottom painted. A lowering section allowing standing headroom has been constructed to fit but not completed. Exterior needs to be painted as just undercoat apple so far.
Interior is bare wood but very nicely made. Price stated on this invoice is for the boat, hulls, all rigging, masts, cross beams and everything necessary to get the boat in the water sailing. Yard trailers, sails, anchors, lines & blocks, 4 winches, custom canvas cover and shell of new cabin. Rudders need finishing (final fairing, all materials for fitting are with the boat and once I finish tidying my works unit I may get this done but price will increase if I get her ready for the water). Also included is the original build plans and receipts for all the materials used.
This boat is huge for the money, high performance but designed to be safe so not to capsize, there is a larger racing rig you can get but I just don't think it would be needed. Nothing else comes close at this advertised price. It is on for a cheap price because of the work needed to finish it as it is not buy & immediate launch. But i've made it even cheaper than this to clear quickly so I can purchase a motor yacht off a friend so I am ready to get on the water when we are released. I don't think this will be on here very long.
Completed without cabin I think this would easily reach £14,000. With cabin making it useful to families who want a stable safe boat but fast it could make £16,000+ depending what you do with it. Fittings are all solid, nothing like a Strider which is a tougher version of a beach cat, nicely made too a credit to it's builder. Price is not my priority here so I hope a bargain for someone to get lots of joy from. There really is not a lot of work there now, more finishing touches, like with all boats a bit of fiddling to get how you want it and bolting her back together to launch.
You can put in silly offers, i'm happy to say no as this boat is already seriously cheap to move it quickly whilst I am not busy at work. But all sensible offers will be considered based on interest in the boat. Serious buyers i'm happy to help with delivery/loading as well as holding boat here for however long lockdown dictates as she is not in our way. Extras if wanted: 7m long by 2.35m wide custom 3500kg tilt bed trailer £2,250.00Yamaha low hours & tidy 10hp High Thrust outboard with remotes & elec start £1,000.00LED nav lights, steaming light and tricolour £350.00 I am gutted for the time I have spent on this boat waiting to get her finished, in the water and not being able to sail her as I bet she is going to be such a nice boat. Any questions please do let me know.
I have lots of pictures. Sale is on a first come first served so if someone hits the BIN button I am not holding on to this for anybody as mentioned above I would like to move this on asap. I'll accept a non refundable £1,000.00 deposit if you buy the boat, unless something is massively not as described. Do check out my feedback, i've bought and sold lots of things over the years and my high rating reflects that I am very honest e-bayer and describe things as best as I can with detail. Happy to do a virtual viewing online with you as boat is in our back garden so no hassle to go out with my phone & video chat our way around.
