Yacht Penelope Dimensions: 25' LOA, 3' 11" Draft, 8 5" Beam, 2000 kg Displacement, 860 Kg Ballast You are viewing an extremely good looking one-off classic sailing yacht designed by RJ Hazel and built in 1972 by the Southampton institute of cold molded construction. She has a fin keel and skeg hung tiller rudder. The hull is constructed of cold molded mahogany which is unusual for such a small yacht which gives her hull an excellent strength to weight ratio resulting in a very quick boat with good performance. She is in excellent condition painted and vanished ready for a new sailing season. Easy to handle single handed or makes a lovely family weekender.
Her cabin and superstructure are all constructed from 1 inch mahogany and her decks are laid to beautiful teak. She has an auto draining cockpit with two large cockpit lockers, one to port and one at the rear of the cockpit which houses the fuel tank, her cockpit seating is also laid with teak decking with black caulking. She has 2 Lewmar No 7 sheet winches and a smaller Antal halyard winch with rope jammers on the coach roof. She has a stainless pulpit and pushpit railings with stainless stanchions and guard wires. Inside she has 2 very long settee berths in the saloon along with a chart table/galley worktop area.
There is a storage shelf above the berths and lots of stowage space under the bunks. The engine is housed in an engine box under the companion way giving good access to all parts of the engine and gearbox. In the fore cabin is a hanging locker to the starboard and a head to starboard with a Marine PH11 sea toilet. There is then a V shaped berth with one child size berth and one adult berth with a mahogany forehatch above the V berth. The berth areas are covered with removable cushioned upholstery which is dark blue vinyl with white piping all in excellent condition.
The engine is a 12hp RCA Dolphin Mk II twin cylinder petrol engine fitted new in 1998 by Coombes Boatyard of Bosham, it is a powerful little engine and pushes the boat at around 5.5kts cruising speed and 6.5kts flat out, it is fitted with a 3 blade propeller new 2008.The fuel tank is a plastic 5 gallon and the throttle controls are of the Morse single lever type. She has a gold anodised Kemp mast and a Z Spars boom, the standard rigging was last replaced in 1999.She has also been fitted with a new Plastimo 608S headsail furling gear.
