Engine Make: Perkins
Sabra is a Samphire 29 long keel, centre cockpit, bermuda rig sloop. We have enjoyed sailing her on the south coast for the last 9 years, now it’s time for someone else to enjoy and improve her. She is currently in a marina near Portsmouth. The centre cockpit design makes the cockpit feel really safe, stable and secure even when the conditions are a little rough. The aft cabin is a snug but comfortable fit for an adult or a couple of children.
In the saloon there’s a small galley area to starboard, a nav table to port and two berths. Forward of the saloon is the heads then the fore cabin, also comfortable for a 6’ adult and cosy for 2. Included in the sale is a full inventory of equipment required & ready to use:2x mainsails in moderate / usable condition1x roller furling genoa, similar conditionBow anchorMarine gas cooker (oven, grill & 2 rings)VHF radioNavigation chartplotter and additional separate GPSInstrumentsFull set of fenders & warpsElectric & manual bilge pumpsBoarding ladderSprayhoodEtc. In recent years a few major improvements/repairs have been completed:The gearbox has been replacedSteering quadrant replaced and all cables renewedWhole exhaust system including the elbow replacedBatteries upgraded And now the bad news:Sabra has an engine fault. The Perkins Perama 3 cylinder 28hp engine starts and runs for a few seconds or maybe a minute before cutting out.
It has all the hallmarks of a fuelling problem but I have addressed the obvious and the fault remains. The fuel lift pump has been replaced and we’ve tried running her on a fresh tank of diesel but this has not fixed the problem. Not sure of the cause of the problem but the fuel injection pump might be the next step. Please note though that I am not qualified to be able to diagnose this accurately. I have not used her much over the last year and there are numerous other minor maintenance jobs and cosmetic repairs that are building up.
These will require some time commitment to sort out but none are urgent. She has however been painted with anti-fouling over the winter so is ready to sail after repair of the engine fault. Sabra is for sale as I cannot keep up with the maintenance demands of an older boat. We’ve spent too much time maintaining and not enough sailing for my liking. Living a 2 ½ hour drive away hasn’t helped.
If you have the time and a bit of money available she would make a great project boat and could be restored to a fantastic yacht. The boat is currently in one of the more expensive marinas in the solent area. I will offer to pay for the berth up to the end of April. After this the buyer takes full responsibility for any further charges, either taking over the berth or moving elsewhere. This will need a tow if the engine isn’t repaired.
Please bid only if you accept this condition. You’re bidding to buy, not to take a look and decide. Viewings can be arranged for Monday 2nd April. I will be around the boat late afternoon and early evening. Please message me if you want to arrange a viewing.
I believe I have valued her fairly at the ‘buy it now’ price taking into consideration the faults and updates required. However, I must sell so have opened the auction with a low starting bid. You could bag a bargain. On 29-Mar-18 at 06:28:54 BST, seller added the following information: Buy It Now has been removed by classifieds board as bidding has started, according to their policy. I reserve the right to end auction early as the boat is listed for sale elsewhere at £4000.On 01-Apr-18 at 12:26:38 BST, seller added the following information: All other adverts have been removed.
Sabra will sell here for the highest bid. Auction will not be ended early.
