Sbs Covert Ops Boat - Kirton Skua Motorised Canoe. V Robust, Car-Toppable (Just)

This a version of the famous Kirton Skua motorised canoe, developed especially for clandestine operations with the Special Force Units of the world, and heavily used by the British Special Boat Service (SBS). The boat is approximately 460cm long, 100cm wide and 55cm deep. It holds three people (but would easily accommodate two adults and two children). With a polyethylene skin and aluminium frame, this is an exceptionally robust boat – the SBS regularly throw them out of the back of helicopters and aeroplanes. They are designed so that they can be entirely submerged and re-surfaced (in order to hide them) with comparative ease by emptying the airbags which otherwise make the boat exceptionally seaworthy.
It is car-toppable (just!), and comes with a self-bailer, a spray-deck and built-in floatation sacks. The spray-deck has a small tear at one of the seams, and is such a tight fit that not all of the poppers align correctly (see photos) but it is still perfectly functional. The tear could easily be fixed with some adhesive tape. In my opinion, you would only really want the spray-deck for putting to sea, or landing, in exceptionally heavy surf conditions. This would make an ideal fishing, lobster potting, diving or safety cover / support boat for events, but is also just great fun for messing about in.
It requires a bare minimum of maintenance from year to year, unlike wooden / fibreglass boats. It requires an outboard motor (approx. 15hp recommended) which is NOT INCLUDED in the sale. The boat can be paddled, like a canoe or kayak, which is useful in the event of engine failure, but I don’t advise it as a primary means of power. I can deliver (for the cost of petrol) within 50 miles or so of West Kirby – but please ask before bidding!
