Description:
I bought this hovercraft last year with the sole intention of making it sea worthy again and selling it on, as I have an inner ear problem that has effected my balance, so I'm not comfortable being on or near open water anymore. Over the years I have built 8 or 9 hovercraft either from kits or from scratch. I like building them, hence why I took this project on. I knew from the outset that I wouldn't make a profit from this project, but the hovercraft was worthy of being used, rather than left unloved and it gave me a project to keep me busy So we have a 14 foot Sevtec Vanguard Hovercraft powered by a 26 hp Briggs & Stratton engine. Thrust is from a 3 blade 52" propeller.Lift is via 24" 6 blade multi-wing fan. The hovercraft had been stood for a couple of years, and needed going over to sort out any problems. I replaced all the electrics, as what was there wasn't suitable for a marine environment. While I was at it, I fitted a new battery. The carburettor was gunged up, so rather than clean it out and fit new gaskets & seals, I bought a new carburettor from the USA and fitted that. While on the fuel system I fitted a new fuel filter, & new fuel lines. The engine starts and runs as it should. The skirt that was fitted to the hovercraft had become hard from exposure to several years of sunlight, so I fitted a new skirt. The hull was blue when I bought it last year, and was looking a little tatty, so I gave it a colour change to white, which has improved its appearance no end. There was no trailer with the hovercraft, so I bought a second hand purpose built fly on / fly off trailer that make loading and unloading the hovercraft a doddle. The trailer had 10" wheels fitted, so I fitted new 12" wheels, as less risk of tyres over heating and failing when being towed. Not a lot more to say about it really. People in the know, know how good the Sevtec designs are. Sevtecs are the Marmite of the hovercraft community. You either love them or hate them.If you are new to hovercraft particularly hovercraft cruising, then please check out the Hovercraft Cruising Club For advice and information: Welcome (hoverclub.org.uk) I'm not going to pretend this hovercraft is perfect, but it's well worth my asking price and a cheap way in to the world of hovercraft cruising. I would recommend looking at the hovercraft if you are interested, so you know what you are buying. The hovercraft is located in Lochcarron, Scottish Highlands IV54. I would consider swapping or taking part exchange for a classic British motor bike, but would prefer cash/Bacs Here are a couple of links to this hovercraft. One is of it ticking over with the new skirt fitted & the other is being used last year before I changed the colour & fitted the new skirt (66) Vanguard first test flight November 7th 2020 - YouTube (66) Vanguard ticking over - YouTube
