‘Shuffle’ 1983 24ft Shuffle 780 Steel Hull/Stainless steel Top sided, double ended long keel, Bermudan rigged yacht. An amazing little boat with loads of History having crossed the Atlantic 4 times and competed in the first ever ARC race. Available for sale for the first time in 20 years. She is Small Ships Registered in the UK. Shuffle was designed and built by Alastair G.L.
Hunter of then Huntward Boat Co in 1983. She was one of only 3 Shuffle Class yachts built and was redesigned at the time of building to include the stainless steel top deck as commissioned by Tom Vernon who went on to complete the interior himself. Tom Vernon entered Shuffle in the very first ARC Atlantic crossing race in 1986 and was the only participant to complete the race without any form of engine. At the time he used only a sculling oar for manoeuvring. Shuffle changed hands in 1988 to a friend of Tom’s, Guy Spencer who then went on to enter in the ARC again only this time as a solo yachtsman and although came last due to some difficulties won the acclaim of his fellow competitors.
There are some interesting copies of newspaper reports about Shuffle and her Atlantic crossings along with some original design plans of when she was built. The last owner has looked after Shuffle for the last 20 years and she has been well maintained mechanically with the addition of a Volvo Penta MD2B diesel engine and various additional touches which make ‘Shuffle’ a unique and quirky little yacht that you can’t help falling in love with. Internally she is a cosy little boat with lots of old charm making up for the lack of some mod cons. There is a sea toilet which is fresh water fed, complete with viewing dome! Seating along both sides of the main saloon suitable for sleeping on, a rear single berth and a small galley area with sink (no running water) portable gas stove and storage.
Low voltage lighting and shore power. I would describe the interior as ‘in need of some updating’ but could easily be improved with some TLC and a bit of joinery! The electric panel is fed by 2 batteries and has cigarette lighter style charging outlets for your phone or ipad. Externally there is a sheet steel Dog House which offers a good degree of shelter at sea. VHF Radio gimballed compass and Sounder/Fishfinder.
For lots of extra pictures see www.bluehorizonyachts.co.uk Part exchange available. Currently in the water at Fleetwood Marina. A brand new Insurance Condition Survey was completed July 2016 and she is in good condition. She has also been antifouled and ready to go. £7500 Offers invited (Vat Paid) General SpecificationLOA : 24ft Beam : 8.2ft Draft : 4.6ftConstructionSteel HullStainless Steel top sidesWhite with blue trimRigging & SailsMasthead Bermudian Sloop rigAlloy mast/sparsAll lines led back to cockpitRoller reefed genoaSpinnakerSail coverMechanical & ElectricalVolvo Penta MD2B 25hp dieselStainless steel prop shaft3 blade propellerShore power I have had a lovely message from Guy Spencer one of the previous owners since placing this advert which goes as follows- 'Guy Spencer here the former owner of Shuffle.
I sailed nearly 20,000 miles on her in 88/ 89 mostly singlehanded to the Caribbean and back. I couldn't recommend her seaworthiness enough. Had only a barometer and VHF for weather and hit some bad weather in the Western Approaches, seas to 60 ft and breaking and we rode it out for 3 days no problem. Back then no engine or roller reefing. I averaged 3.98 kts for the whole voyage, hull speed is about 4 kts.
I have since sailed over 300,000 nm since as a Captain on sailing boats up to 125 ft and felt as safe if not safer on Shuffle than any of the others! If you want to go far on a budget, this is the boat for you.' Thanks very much Guy how lovely to here from you. :-)
