Skerry (Balanced Lug Rig) Sailing, Rowing, Motoring Cruising Light Craft

Built in 2019 and cosmetically updated winter 2020 this is a pure fun based taste of the old world. Based on historic Scandinavian and old English working boats with a little American Skiff and Dory thrown in. The very name "Skerry" means "small boat" in old Norse or "Small Island" in old Celt. Built out of Okume Ply and Glass fibre laminations. The Skerry is designed for capable sailing on all points of sail and is effortless to row, and she does so with ease.

Rowing, with even basic 8'6'' Oars (included), she carry's with every stroke up and down wind and even against the tide. I have extended the Skeg for improved tracking. The single Balanced Lug Rig and sail makes for exciting and surprisingly fast sailing in a good breeze (up to 6kts recorded) or a leisurely plod in light airs. Reefing kicks in at about 12kts of wind. There is a single line of reefing points.

Although principally for sailing and rowing she will take an outboard, Max 3hp. I have fabricated a special reinforced timber bracket / stock to take a long shaft engine. Currently (when I'm feeling lazy) I run her with a Torqeedo 1003CL 3hp electric outboard but she will take any quality brand of 2.5hp 4 stroke. The side seats are my own addition to help balance her and keep the weight central. She likes to be sailed upright but will heel and stay pointed even over the wakes of less polite motor cruisers.

The Skerry easily cuts through the chop on a tidal river with wind over tide. Additions include the obligatory "beer locker" aft, solid in-whales, upgraded tackle and cockpit tidy's. There is a removable false floor. Everything including the mast packs in to the craft. Trail her anywhere that takes your fancy.

Rigged in less than 15mins. The traditional Push / Pull tiller arrangement takes a little getting used to (about 2 mins) and is very responsive especially now that I have increased the size of the rudder blade and rudder stock. The lazy Jacks come in handy and an anchor with 30m of warp are included, kept in the open anchor bay up forward which is another bespoke addition. A bespoke breathable cover (made by Trident) keeps her dry when laid up and a brand new Combi Road Trailer / Launching Trolley is included. (Trident Vario II).

The hull is double reinforced with the addition of a graphite coating to the bottom side for hard beach or slip way landings. Guinness as I have affectionately named her (due to the new colour scheme) is ready view, currently lying at Medway. I am open to reasonable offers and selling to maintain my Yacht.
