PLEASE READ FULLY! Buyer to collect. Cash on collection please. You are bidding on a 17 foot Skua Sailing Dinghy / Racing Sail Boat believed to be from the 1960's. I purchased this recently with the intention of taking it to Devon for renovation and sailing but my circumstances have changed temporarily and I don't have space to store.
We have gently stripped the paint from the top of the boat and removed any rope that is beyond use. Overall everything appears to be in good condition but will need attention to get it back on the water. This boat has been previously listed and based on the details from previous owners it has an interesting history and is apparently quite rare. I have taken sections of the previous ad and copied this below - The boat has a GRP hull and marine ply deck which has been partially stripped ready for varnish, the craftsmanship involved in putting her together is apparent and after many years the woodwork is in very good condition. There's an entry on Wikipedia - https://wikimili.com/en/Skua_(dinghy) saying the Skua was designed for the Royal Forth Yacht Club in 1962.
It also mentions the 'drop keel' which makes for easier handling and allows her to be kept on a dry mooring. Apparently there were 56 built and this is number 43. From stories I've been told she's had quite a colourful history and has taken part in races from as far a field as Scotland and the round the island (isle of white) race. She is also eligible for CVRDA racing events (Classic and Vintage Racing Dinghy Association). She comes complete with her racing sales (numbered 43) a custom built trailer, spinnaker etc.
Please note - breakneck rollers as seen in the photos are NOT included! Hull - The hull is in excellent condition. Slipper launch shape with marine ply decking. Mast and Boom - All in good condition. Rigging will need replacing in full or part.
Sails - Both main sail and spinnaker are in great condition. Some marks/stains but these should clean off. Both are folded in a single storage bag Rudder - Solid wood rudder that drops in the a slot at the back of the boat. Varnished and no signs of rot or need for repair. Keel - The keel is apparently a lead drop keel which make the boat very stable but pretty heavy.
Trailer - The trailer is a substantial galvanised single axle in excellent road condition. The jockey wheel is a bit temperamental and doesn't hold air for long but is functional. Overall very solid with no signs of rust or rot. Both wheels roll well and the trailers pulls nicely. There is one central roller and wooden blocks that sit either side to steady the boat.
Please note the trailer does not include the break back roller wheels as seen in the photos and buyer will need to bring appropriate. Any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
