I have decided to sell TARRAGON as I haven't used her since June last year and she is just floating about on her River Exe mooring (at Starcross) gathering weed. The mooring is included in the sale... or can be removed and the price adjusted if you don't want it. Also included is a blow up tender (with a lot of patches but it is airtight), a British Seagull outboard motor (for use on the tender), and two lifejackets. Anything that is on the boat is also included (pots/pans/cutlery/sleeping bags etc) This is everything you need to go sailing :) You can see her 'live' on this webcam: http://www.starcross-fcc.com/webcam/ * Choose "Starcross Pier" from the menu and then click: * top left * zoom (5 times) * bottom right * zoom (2 times) * And that should take you straight to her. Tarragon is a 1977 Thames Marine Snapdragon 21.
She is in good condition but has not been used for a long time and she does have a lot of weed on her hull. In June last year I sailed her from Starcross to Lyme Regis, stayed overnight and sailed back. She had a couple of problems (see later) but nothing that a bit of maintenance wouldn't fix. She is a good boat, with good sails and you'll have a lot of fun with her. You can see a couple of videos of a previous owner sailing her on Youtube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?
V=5-_pWeyx8CE https://www.youtube.com/watch? V=0WFoxaFVjMk The mooring is licensed by Powderham estates and it costs £245 a year (rent) which is due 1st March. You can read all about it here: http://www.powderham.co.uk/our-stories/estate/moorings As the new owner you will also have to pay a registration fee of £185+VAT. What I am officially selling you is the mooring tackle and the rights to that spot on the River. The location of the mooring is about 200yds up river from the River Exe Cafe.
Here is a photo of the cafe, my boat is about 3rd one up river from this pic: http://www.boatownersassociationteignmouth.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/image.jpeg it is a beauiful location. So, down to the known problems. On the last trip, I had to strip the impeller (water pump) of the engine as it wasn't sucking in seawater to cool itself. I found that the plastic impeller had lost its little metal key (that stops it spinning on the shaft). I fashioned one from a bit of metal (I keep things in my toolbox like that) and got it working again.
The repair is good... but to be sure, you might want to replace the impeller and woodruff key. Kits are available for about £25. Also, the battery charge indicator light came on during the return leg of my last trip. I suspect it is 'lack of maintenance' and the battery terminals (and probably the ones on the battery selector switch) need cleaning. Worse case scenario, you might be in for a dynostart or regulator but I doubt it.
The wind indicator shows wrong readings too, I suspect the wiring from the mast-head to the dial... but who needs an electronic wind direction indicator anyway? If you dont know where the wind is coming from you shouldn't be sailing ;) So, I am open to offers and I would like to sell the boat before the mooring rent is due. If I have to pay the rent then I am likely to keep the boat. Please call me on 0phone if you want to talk about Tarragon. As I live near Birmingham, I can't really show prospective buyers the boat.
You'll have to content yourself with seeing her on the webcam and looking at the pictures. I can send you more pictures and videos if you ask. Any Questions, ask.Richard
