A TOTALLY UNIQUE BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY WITH HIGH VISIBILITY AND A HISTORIC TWIST! The SULA Lightship was build in the UK as ‘LV14’ in 1958 near Hull for the Humber Conservancy Board. Dimensions: 35M long 8.5M wide 3M draft. She was located at the Spurn sandbank and the shipping-lane entrance to the river Humber and was in service until 1985. After SULA was decommissioned, she became a museum ship at several locations around the UK and Ireland.
She was also used as a club-house of a yacht-club in Guernsey. The lightship was extensively converted and restored by the current owners over a period of 3 years and brought to Gloucester in 2010. She is a registered historic vessel and recognised as one of the best restored and preserved lightships in the UK. SULA is unique because: · she is one of the very rare lightships with a Fresnel lens system in the light-tower. (very common for light-houses, not for light-ships) · her foghorn design is only used on 2 ships worldwide · and the life-boat is one of the first fiber-glass life-boats ever built SULA is currently housing a Centre for Complementary Healthcare.
It also houses the Gloucester Buddhist Centre and offers accommodation for the owners. MOORING AND FACILITIES The iconic lightship has a mooring at Llanthony Quay just South of the main basin in the city of Gloucester (UK). She is situated at the vibrant Dock and Quay area where extensive renovations and investments are ongoing. The brand new Peel Quays Outlet Centre with a wide variety of modern shops, a brand new cinema complex and plenty of bars and restaurants at walking distance make this one of the most attractive areas in Gloucester. The city centre is just a 10 minutes’ walk from the ship.
The ship is moored opposite a large grass area and is facing the historical Llanthony Priory and attracts thousands of visitors each year. The lightship has got planning permission from the City Council and has a business licence. The permits allow for business and residential use. The lightship benefits from a permanent drinking water supply, electrical power and telecoms cables. A new central heating system was professionally installed in 2010 with a high-efficiency condensing oil-fired boiler and high capacity hot-water cylinder.
The electrical system was designed, installed and certified in 2010 to the 17th edition of the Wiring Regulations. On the aft deck, a 6KW 240VAC diesel generator (Lister) is installed as back-up. The ship is also equipped with a modern intruder alarm, an eight-camera CCTV system and a fire detection/alarm system, all professionally installed. The ship is well insulated. Most of the top-side areas are insulated with 10cm foam and additional 6cm wool insulation.
SULA was carefully converted and restored over three years to accommodate the business and was done to the highest standards, whilst trying to preserve the historic feel of the ship. The ship was last dry-docked, completely blasted and professionally repainted 7 years ago. She can be converted to accommodate any needs.
