Please read the complete description before making enquiries Presenting the Caraboat. Classic amphibious caravan, or road going boat, no one really knows..Designed by John Askham and produced from the early 1970’s, they now remain in small numbers and seldom become available to buy. This particular model has recently been fully restored and modernised to a high standard, using good quality materials. Generally, all fittings have either been replaced with new or refurbished. This is a very rare opportunity to own a slice of British eccentricity at its best. And a rock solid investment.
The Caraboat was partially restored 10 years ago before I purchased it, consequently structural work had been completed, the steels inside the monocoque have been replaced.(documentation present of all previous work and the restorative work I have undertaken over the last year or so.)There are many images on my Instagram account ‘calvicraft’ detailing the process..Do contact me with any specific 'valid' questions as there is too much to outline in text. Brief spec:240v hookup with rcd, battery charger.2x240sockets, 1 x12v socket. Led lights throughout.Onboard fresh water tank, pressurised system with large pump.Auto bilge pump.3 berth, one king size bed forward with a single stern quarter berth.Galley features 2 burner gas hob, sink and cold tap.Heads with small basin, cold tap and portable toilet.Large Waeco top loading fridge. Lots of additional under seat and cupboard storage inc wardrobe over 1/4 berth. The flooring panels and most of the modular seating units have been designed to be easily removed to enable bilge access. The troublesome original french doors have been replaced with heavy Perspex drop in panels that makes access to the forward deck easier. Here exterior lockers double as seats at either side.A large part of the interior is clad in hygienic pastel grey pvc, chosen for practicality and longevity.
Forward deck canvas canopy, removable or can be rolled up.New Brakes, bearings, tyres, towing electrics etc etc..Morse controls and cables relatively new. Transom Connections for Honda outboard present.Outboard not included. 16’ body18’ overallWidth 6’ 10”Height 8’6”Internal height 6’3” (less in the heads)Weight 1600lbI expect it to be perhaps 850kg now, certainly no more that 1000kg Potentially highly lucrative as air b&b accommodation as was my intention, however, life is too busy..Suited to canals, rivers, lochs, NOT COASTAL WATERS. She is ready to use, with the addition of an outboard (NOT INCLUDED) 10-15 hp short shaft is recommended. A towing stabiliser is recomended when towing one of these, especially when not loaded.
The caraboat has NOT been launched since the completed renovation. I hope to have the time to do this in April. It has been towed. I will ‘consider’ part exchanges, classic car, motorhome and boat may be of interest, but not large projects. (I am clued up on values).I would also require as similar amount of information on what you are offering as I have provided here.
Contact me by phone with genuine enquiries. (I will not arrange a viewing unless we have spoken on the phone). If you require any more general information on caraboats you will find a small amount on the internet, there is a youtube video, (not mine) also an informative amphibious caravan group on Facebook.
