Unique Houseboat On Mooring In Sandwich, Kent

The Edith Cavell is a historic vessel currently moored on the River Stour at Sandwich and used as a static live-aboard houseboat. It is believed that the hull is constructed of galvanised steel. Records show that in the late 1960's she was sold on and worked for many years as a pleasure boat, then as a bar and, most recently, as a houseboat. She was last slipped in 2010 where substantial work was carried out on her hull including plating.

Recent surveys are available to view including ultrasound hull thickness reports and a full 2015 in-situ survey. In 1999 she was valued at £100 000 - £105 000 Her twin diesel engines (Perkins 4360) are still in place and could be restored. Alternatively the engine room (some 14ft long) could be stripped out and converted into additional accommodation. Her cold water system was completely overhauled in 2015 with a new high capacity pump. The waste extractor system for the shower room was cleaned and serviced in 2016.

Her bilge and black water pumps are in good working order and I have a spare pump which will be included. There is a stock of LPG gas and solid fuel, both of which will be included. She is a comfortable and spacious home and I have spent considerable time finding suitably skilled and experienced trades for a luxury refit. I am happy to pass this information on should it be desired. Her mooring is paid until the end of August 2017 and I am happy to transfer this subject to an acceptable sale price.

Unlike many marina moorings she is in a fabulous location, only 5 minutes walk from the historic and desirable town of Sandwich. I am selling her because of a change in my personal circumstances and hope to find someone to take her on and maintain a wonderful piece of naval history.
