Description:
I have for sale my West Wight Potter 14 sail number D106. It has been fully restored to a high standard and there are lots of fine features and extras as listed below:The hull and top side are original unpainted gel coat and in great condition. The mast and spars are beautifully finished. All fittings are in good condition. There is a deluxe timber main hatch. The one piece washboard has a small window. There is a new rear hatch in a solid hardwood surround. There are two cabin ventilators. The cabin has a nice soft EVA flooring system. The bare glass fibre of the interior is with anthracite van lining felt . If it didn’t suit the new owner the sides at least could very easily be changed. The rear bulkhead and part of the cabin sides are lined with varnished plywood. The headlining is in 6mm varnished and painted MDF grooved to look like boarding. There is a new hardwood centreboard cover with brass plate.Oars and quality chromed rowlocksAllen cam cleats for sail handling. These are great quality and very easy to use.New large hatch to forward buoyancy chamber with 30 litres water ballast in 3 plastic containers. As I am only 9 stone I felt I needed this especially when single handing the boat.New Nasa Marine echo sounderInclinometerBoarding ladderWhite canvas tent which uses the oars for support. This has a canvas bag and has only been erected a couple of times to test it out.Electrical system with small battery, main switch, switch panel with USB connection, LED nav lights, and interior light. There is a full boat cover in Odyssey 217 grams/msq fabric which will keep all the woodwork in tip top condition. There is a small anchor, chain and rope. The trailer is very sound with no rust, good wheels and tyres and I have fitted two docking arms which make the easy job of retrieval onto the trailer even easier. The main sail and genoa are old but serviceable. All running rigging is new.The asking price includes a brand new main sail by Jeckells, only used twice.A brand new not yet fitted Plastimo roller reefing system and Jeckells genoa are available by separate negotiation if required. The boat has been designed as an overnighter suitable ideally for one person, with a seat to one side of the centreboard, and a sleeping area to the other.I am 5’9” and there is full sitting headroom for me. Alternatively you can sleep on the floor. Supplies can be stored in a box under the berth. Alternatively two berths can be arranged all as shown in the photos. There is space for a portable toilet but this is not included in the sale. There is a good quality outboard bracket. I use a Suzuki 2.5 4 stroke which is ample and gives a good 5 knots max. It NOT included in the sale as I need it for my next boat. Why am I selling such a beautiful boat. Well, I designed the interior principally for use by one person but my wife has rather taken to sailing again and would like to stay on board.Whilst this is possible in theory, there is the bunk space, we think it would be just too tight for us and have decided to go for a slightly larger boat. I am a retired architect, as you will see I have a 100 percent classifieds board record and I pride myself on being an honest classifieds boarder. I have owned a good many boats over the 45 years I have been sailing. You can rely on my descriptions. I do think this boat is as good as it looks. There are 57 additional HD photos of the boat, see my Google photos album seen via this link https://photos.app.goo.gl/xBBCm9nXN5fSJk8E6 You sometimes have to wait a while until the photos come into focus. They are all HD quality. There are further descriptions under some of these photos. Please note that some of the photos were taken prior to the fitting of certain items such as the Allen cleats on the cabin top for sail handling and the new sails and roller reefing. Also please remember THE OUTBOARD SHOWN IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE SALE.Really there are no rough edges to this boat. The only fault is a slight undulation to the bottom at the rear as a result of spending a long time on the trailer. These boats, as most boats built in the early years, are very strongly constructed so this is of no great concern. The West Wight Potter is a classic designed by Stanley Smith, one of few boats of this size with a cabin. He sailed one single handed from his yard on the Isle of Wight to Sweden in October. There is a great article by Tom Cunliffe, see this link https://www.sailingtoday.co.uk/magazine/tom-cunliffe-on-stanley-c-smith-and-thinking-small/ You can see a great account of his voyage here https://potter-yachters.org/stories/ssmith.html The boat is vey stable owing to the hull shape and 55kg centre board. It is recommended to keep the heel below 10 degrees, hence the inclinometer. The purchaser could either come and collect the boat ,which is Near Milnthorpe in South Cumbria, or I would be prepared to meet half way up to a distance of 100 miles if my fuel costs were covered. Please note that this boat is advertised elsewhere and therefore may be removed from classifieds board at any time.
