Engine Make: Suzuki
Here we have my beloved Potter. Right off the bat the only reason for sale is the cockpit is too small for my family and as we prefer day sails or dinghy type sailing an open boat would be more appropriate. She sails really well with all the rigging present and correct. The main could maybe do with a re-cut but it is more than serviceable and pushes this little boat to the plane in the right conditions. The jib is pretty decent.
Outside she could do with a clean and the rear locker hatch leaks despite my trying different techniques to seal it. At some point a previous owner had fitted an outboard well but then put it back to normal so the rear has a marine ply top to the locker (where I assume the outboard well was). The underneath looks pretty good but the bilge runners had collapsed slightly in two places. I have ground out packed and fibreglassed these as can be seen in the photos using west system epoxy. I have not painted them yet as I was waiting for the new fibreglass to yellow (completely cure).
I believe these repairs to be stronger than the original hull now. Other than that there are chips in the gel coat but it looks pretty good. Inside was very dry for the first inspection this season though there are small signs of mold on fabric surfaces I assume this to be condensation as there is no rain water in sight. There is no bench/bed inside which makes the cabin more spacious for day sails. I have put a couple industrial carpet runners inside but you could easily camp in this boat.
Rigging can be done solo and takes me 20ish minutes. The centre board is a touch heavy but goes up and down OK. There are reefing points in the sail. The engine has not yet been run this season though I took the carb to pieces and cleaned it last season and it was running very well. It has been modified with a fuel filter and the cowling is off the newer type engine.
As the photos show it is in very good condition but I have no idea the total hours. Overall this boat has been very pleasurable to own and I will be sad to see it go. She sails in a tiny puff of wind or in choppy seas. The trailer is serviceable but has no winching point. I have added a winch in the best location available but it is not ideal.
The winch handle went missing but these can be easily obtained. The trailer hitch was brand new last season as was the jockey wheel. The trailer is not perfect but it certainly does the job. I have been very honest with this listing and any viewings/questions are welcome. Contact me here and I will provide additional contact details.
