Here we have a classic hand built Lysander 17 Sailing boat. She was purchased by myself from classifieds board early in 2016.My wife and I had fun taking her out on our local canals, being twin bilge keels (bolted iron) she's very stable in the water,(the boat and the wife) the classic British Seagull outboard (which is included in the sale) chugging us along happily, visiting our friends who live on canal boats along the river Trent or going out to a canal side pub for dinner. We even spent a few weekends "camping out" with our dog, cosy and romantic, I recommend taking a bottle of Prosecco (or two!) Being classic she got lots of admiring looks and comments where ever we moor up. She's such a pretty thing. (The wife and the boat.) We used her over the season and I had grand plans in 2017 to Renovate her,(the boat, the wife is absolutely fine thank you very much!) the main issues being the old technology resins used with the fiberglass tape over the stitch n glue hull seams really needs to be redone. Having started to pull off the tape and then deciding to start stripping the hull (I got as far as stripping front deck and front quarter of hull) for a full prime and repaint in planned red and cream (classic colors) other projects have got in the way and she has spent months under a tarpaulin and the wife feels i need to adult up and accept I've got to get on with other projects and let this one go to someone with more time and desire to sit with a hot air gun scraping off layers of anti-foul and paint while musing their existence.
This is a very special Boat, called "Cirrus Elf" Plan and sail number 286 showing how early she is. She comes with a set of usable red sails, gunter rigging and stacks of history, including a set of original plans, enough information to build a replica let alone do any repairs. Cirrus Elf was built of marine ply (or she'd surely not be around these days) by a former chairman of the Lysander owners club and letters I have in the file show a survey completed many years after she was built (we believe early 60's) states "soundly constructed-well above the usual amateur standard" I believe this is because the chairman at the time knew the designer Percy Blandford personally so probably had to make sure he built his design properly! She has a valid BoatSafetyScheme certificate valid up to 27 June 2020 and will come on the dual axle road trailer. Which is in my opinion in a poor condition. Please note the trailer brakes are currently seized (off) as the towbar piston has rusted but the trailer is mobile.
So tow at your own risk. (I used a range rover and a transit van with no issue last autumn) Her navigation lights work but the leisure battery will need to be replaced. I'll include, all spars rigging, the mast, sails, portapotty, a new fire extinguisher, the British Seagull outboard the tarpaulins that have kept her cozy over winter, an aluminium stepladder and any random bits and bobs I forget to take out when she goes. You can have the trailer "lightboard" which has a specially extended cable and old style 7pin connector but you'll need to sort your own number plate out, its the law. Please remember she is going to be a project and is definitely not something you will be sailing next weekend!
But I'm sure whoever does the work will find themselves with a wonderful enjoyable, fun and very rewarding little trailer sailer.
