I have made the decision to put our family boat up for sale. About the boat: This is a 2001 model Seadoo Challenger 2000 Jet drive sports boat. We have owned this for 4 years and it has been spot on. Way better than all our previous 3.0 mercruiser engined sportsboats. In that 4 year period all i have had to do is replace on control cable that seized up over winter.
I always remove the battery over winter period and keep it charged up. It fires up first time every time. The boat tiself is superb for family fun. Due to the very different internal layout there is loads of room and we have had 8 people on this with no problems. You can sit 4 in the bow area, 2 main seats and a triple back seat.
It also has a lovely large sunpad behind rear seats which is great for chilling, or sitting on while you get your kit on for fun in the water. Behind the sunpad there is a good sized swim platform that you can stand on to get in and out of the water easily. The entire boat has been fitted with Aquaturf foam flooring to give a comfy and grippy surface to walk around on.Since owning the boat we have fitted a custom Origin wakeboard tower with board racks and large rear view mirror. There is a low tow pole also built into the boat itself for pulling larger inflatable with more than one person on. There is also a pair of brand new Rockville wakeboard tower speakers to go with the boat (Not pictured).
I never got around to fitting and wiring them up. As well as the tower we commissioned the manufacture of a bespoke custom full winter cover (See pic). This has been designed to fit perfectly around the tower etc, and has ratchets straps and venting built in. The Tower and accesories was around £1200, the Cover cost us £800. Trailer: The boat will come on the trailer pictured.
This is a full braked road trailer, but as we keep the boat on site and dont take it anywhere we have not maintained this for road use. It has been used to launch and retrieve the boat only, although this is not to say it is not upto proper towing. I have to tow the boat to a nearby town to launch and it tows perfectly well, but may not be up to official braking specifications. As long as you drive steady the trailer brakes and handles perfectly. There is one small issue at the moment in that last time we went out early this year one of the rollers came off when we got the boat back on.
This is easily fixed next time the boat goes out (Off trailer), and i even have a brand new roller ready, but we are not currently insured/using the boat so i havnt been able to get it done. Engine: Engine is the Mercury V6 240 EFI attached to Jet drive unit. This is a 2 stroke engine that runs on std unleaded petrol and has a separate tank for the running/mixing oil. This is automatically mixed in the engine so no messing about pre-mixing fuel. Just keep the oil tank topped up and it will be fine.
These type of engines do smoke a bit on tickover due to that oil mixing and building up on exhausts. It is not a problem, just a 2 stroke thing. This is no exception, but as soon as you start moving it clears instantly and runs a dream. This engine has been amazing in terms of starting first time every year even after the winter, has never missed a beat while out on the water, and can propel you up to 50-55mph pretty quickly, which feels very fast in a 20ft speedboat. Only reason for sale is that our kids are now getting to that age where they dont want to go away at the weekend any more so it is just not getting used.
I live in Chester but the boat is in stored and used in Abersoch so if interested we will have to arrange a mutual time to go and view. I have always sold previous boats due to issues with them or not getting along with them. This one is not like that, it is a superb boat that i dont really want to sell but there simply isnt much point to having it right now. Going to downgrade to a Jetski for myself to use. WOULD CONSIDER A PX WITH JETSKI.
