A restoration project, a non-runner in need of electrical, mechanical and cosmetic work
Description:
1971 Sea Ray SRV190 for Restoration Unique in the UK I would have thought, where are you going to find another? I bought this superb Sea Ray as a restoration project a couple of years ago with the intention of using it in the Lake District when finished. Unfortunately, I’ve done very little with it. Even when lockdown arrived, I didn’t get any spare time to look at it and to make matters worse I no longer have a suitable tow vehicle. Now is the time to pass her on to someone who will return her to the water and enjoy her.Heavy fibreglass construction, 18 feet length, 7 foot beam, 150HP OMC Stringer Drive (Buick V6 Petrol), Seats 6. The prop chart says she may be good for 45mph in the right trim so she's no slouch. The bad bits; The engine, leg and dashboard are completely 'electrically dead' so you will need the services of a good auto electrician. A good mechanic will also be required to recommission the oily bits after the electrics have been sorted, the engine turns with a spanner on the crank nose and the oil appears clean but beyond that I have no knowledge of condition. The steering Teleflex cable appears to be completely seized though the leg moves freely in all directions when disconnected from the Teleflex. The not so bad bits; The hull and deck need a good machine polish to restore the colour plus a few gel-coat repairs, mainly mooring related scrapes and they're probably not bad enough to need a colour match, clear would probably look fine. I’ve recently had a hull polishing session using ‘3M Perfect-It Medium’ and the gelcoat cleans up very nicely (if you like Avocado) but I only managed the transom and starb’d side so far and they will need doing again. The seating needs a good clean and there are a couple of seams which will need a small amount of re-stitching, but they're respectable for their age. She’s riding on a decent galvanised four-wheel braked trailer which apparently has never been in water, she comes with several covers, a marine battery, two propellers, anchors and other misc. Items included a full set of original factory manuals, a cooling water lift pump rebuild kit, a carb rebuild kit and a new transom bellows kit (very important for keeping her afloat). The original sun shade fabric is missing, however the frame is complete and I have a brochure showing what the original should look like. She has not had the benefit of being garaged during my ownership but a decent Classic Accessories cover has kept her dry inside, a new cover may be needed in the next 12 months as the sun has taken it's toll. About the photos; Pictures 1 to 6 were taken by me. Pictures 7 to 10 were taken by the previous owner. Pictures 11 & 12 are brochure extracts, 11 is from 1970 and 12 (with the yacht) is from 1971, both are from US brochures. The 1971 European SRV190 appears to be a strange mix of both years, maybe down to whatever spare or duplicate moulds were available from the Michigan and Arizona plants, who knows? Important stuff; OK, you won't be able to use her next weekend or even the one after, but I'm sure she could easily be sorted in time for the summer holidays and some good staycation fun.
