Boat Type: Cabin Cruiser
Beam (Feet): 6
Engine Manufacturer: Honda BF50D 50hp
Thanks for looking at the sale of my boat “Sweet Kismet”. She is a Shetland 535 with a Honda BF50D. 1970-ish boat with a 2008 engine. It is the later type Euro emission compliant engine with full electronic control and electronic fuel injection. She is available to view at Newhaven, East Sussex by appointment.
Sea trial possible depending on weather conditions. Someone is going to get a small but very solid and capable boat here. She is used regularly and performs flawlessly. I do regular trips out of Newhaven harbour to the channel wrecks up to 10 miles out with complete confidence. She will cruise all day at 18-20 knots but will top just shy of 30 knots so is no slouch on the water. Fuel consumption is unbelievable.
Steady cruising at 18 knots she will burn only around 9 litres an hour due to the lean burn electronic fuel injection. The engine is serviced regularly and runs like a dream, always starts first turn of the key. Remote tilt and trim. Through tube steering. Wiring loom fitted for remote controls and rev counter/trim gauge. Two keys available.
The photo of the engine shows it being flushed with fresh water which I do after every use. The boat was last rebuilt and refitted between 3 and 4 years ago. The hull was stripped back to bare gelcoat (which was perfect condition under the old paint) then given 3 coats of International Gelshield epoxy followed by 2 coats of antifoul so is good for keeping on a floating mooring if need be. Everything else was coated in International acrylic. The transom and entire splashwell section was rebuilt and reinforced so is strong as any boat out there. It handles the 50hp motor perfectly and keeps rigidity in the hull.
The boat will certainly handle far rougher seas than I ever could! The cockpit was fitted with LED lighting, electrics, all switched from the helm. Two 12v power sockets are fitted in the cabin. The cabin door was fitted with a double skin and a seal with a deadlock fitted for security. New seating for the cockpit and the berth cushions remade using vinyl over 4” thick foam so they’re super comfy and waterproof.
The cabin windows are dark tinted for privacy and shade. A new oem Shetland (5mm thick) preformed tinted windscreen was also fitted.LED navigation lights and a LED spotlight on the sides of the cabin and deck. A re-inforced bow rail was put on along with a bow roller and a 7.5kg anchor. A 4ft grp vhf antenna is fitted to the side of the cabin. An original oem Shetland sunbrella canvas canopy and frame are present (this is over £1800 alone) which is barely used and still in nearly new condition. It looks great on and shields from the weather well.
There is also a flat cockpit cover in grey sunbrella fabric which is a little faded and tatty but still functional. The deck had the floor replaced with 19mm marine ply and all painted in epoxy. It was then covered in a sheet of 4mm rubber with antislip surface. At the stern there is an electric bilge pump with level switch which exits through a brass bush in the transom. It is controlled from the helm panel.A battery is also fitted at the stern as well as a 22 litre portable fuel tank which fits under the splashwell out of the way.She is kept on a galvanised bunk trailer and comes with a transferable place in a trailer sailer boat yard in Newhaven East Sussex if you want storage.Jobs that need doing? Not a lot really.
She is fully functional and seaworthy. The paint on the cabin section needs a touch up but still looks reasonably respectable. The rubber bellows in the splashwell need replacing. They’re not essential but just look a bit tatty. The trailer could do with tidying with some cleaning up, painting and perhaps new bearings if you’re going to road tow it.Reason for sale? I just want something a bit larger I can take the family on so need her to find a new home.In truth, I will miss this boat a lot. Despite her age and old design, she’s still very capable and I’ve spent many hours on the water with her. Be prepared for my tears when I hand over the keys!
NB: At the moment I have a Lowrance HDS GPS with sonar and structurescan 3d setup connected to a Lowrance AIS equipped VHF radio. None of the electronic navigation or communication electronics are included in the sale and will be removed beforehand.Note: This item is advertised elsewhere and may be withdrawn at any time.10/09/19 Extra pics added to show cabin, cockpit, deck and bilges.
