Hi - this is a listing for my Shetland 535 motor cruiser/fishing boat. Re-listed due to winning bidder being unable to raise the funds. Shetland boats have a great reputation and can be used both in- and offshore as family cruisers or fishing boats. I bought the boat last year with high hopes of getting it refurbished over winter, ready for putting in the water in the spring - sadly my personal situation has changed and I regrettably won't have the opportunity to get it all sorted. The previous owner was an amazing 80 year-old who had owned it for many years, keeping it on the Norfolk Broads and also using it for sea fishing.
A big part of me choosing this boat was the engine - it's an awesome 40hp Mercury 4-stroke Efi, with electric start/trim and tilt. It started after a couple of turns of the key, despite having been left for a good few months and pumped a cracking stream of water. The previous owner paid over £1750 for this engine 2nd hand. A marine battery and fuel tank are included. Below deck, there are 2 storage lockers and stereo speakers fitted.
There's a marine radio, fire extinguisher and an internal light, but I haven't attempted to connect these to a battery, so can't comment on whether they work or not; the same for the exterior navigation lights. There's a compass on top and I've also got a fish-finder - again, haven't tested this. It may be that the wiring needs attention, but this would be a very simple job. Some rain has managed to get into the cabin during the recent bad weather, so don't expect it to be bone dry inside... Extras include a canopy (shown laid out in the photo), which looks to be in really good condition - there's a new one of these listed on classifieds board for £350. Other equipment includes various anchors, a rusty canal lock windlass, warps/ropes, a rod-holder, a heavy-duty steel propeller guard, old life jackets (not sure if these are still usable), various fenders, a buoy, 2 spare windows, window rubbers (mostly those I removed when I took the windows out) and a nearly-full tin of grey primer.
There's also a removable fibreglass rear seat, which I believe fits along the back of the rear deck. Please understand that this is a project - I don't think it needs much to get it back on the water, but please come and look so you know what you are bidding on. As you can see in the photos, the boat needs some general TLC: - the hull has been partially undercoated by the previous owner and I started to sand down parts of the topside - these jobs need finishing, so plenty of rubbing down, undercoating and top coats needed. I'm not sure about what is original gelcoat and what has been painted over, so please come and check for your yourself. - the interior also needs a good sanding down and re-painting as you can see... new cushions needed too.
- 3 windows need re-fitting - likely to need new window rubbers, although I've saved the old sections and there are some other new pieces too - the rubbing strake has seen better days, but is still functional - the trailer is unbraked. It needs a winch fitting - I removed the old one as the strap had broken. I bought a brand new replacement but the bolt holes don't line up with the frame and I never got around to sending it back. Both old and new winches are included - the strap could be taken off the new winch and put on the old one for a simple fix. Currently can't find the fixing bolts, but these would be easy to replace.
There's a spare wheel that needs a new tyre and the bearings look like they've had some grease not too long ago. I can't comment on the road worthiness of the trailer, so the new owner will have to decide whether to trust it or not - it made the journey of nearly 70 miles to where I live last year without issue. I WILL TRY TO GET NEW BEARINGS FITTED TO THE TRAILER THIS WEEK, BUT CAN'T PROMISE! Please remember that I haven't used the boat on the water, but the previous owner assured me it was great and the engine pushed it along brilliantly. The boat is located near Brough, just north of the Humber and approximately 20 mins drive from the bridge.
