Hopefully the pictures provide most of the information. Ultra reliable Shetland 498 with a small cabin. We have had some fantastic days out on our boat. She is a tried and tested design and is easy to launch and recover from a slipway. Tows very easily behind a saloon car.
The main things The engine is great 40HP for this size boat offers plenty of power. For a small family or couple she is ideal. The Evinrude is a 2 stroke with mix in the fuel tank. We can meander up the river at 4 knots or if you do go down to the coast she can motor along quite happily. We pulled a "ringo" along a couple of years back no problem.
The boat gets on the plane quick and easily. Photo of wake was a week or so ago on the river.. The engine has just been checked over by a marine mechanic who said she is absolutely fine and pumps water no problem. Electric trim works fine onboard and on the motor for locking when trailering. He did a couple of steering adjustments on the remotes at the same time The hull is fine and perfectly seaworthy for coastal and estuary exploring, I have tried to show the odd mark underneath but nothing other than the usual marks and scuffs.2 adults and 2 children has worked fine for us, I made a compromise on the overall size against ease of transport, launch etc. Would make a great fishing boat.
The 40 Evinrude doesn't hang about when asked. Shallow draft as you can see from the photo on the trailer so you can get very close in if exploring estuaries. The picture shows a half cover for those hot days. I also have the inserts t (rear and two side panels to fully cover the boat if staying overnight. I also have a winter cover that covers from stern to on top of cabin doorway.
100% water tight. The windows are all fully sealed - no issues with leaks whatsoever. TrailerAbsolutely top class trailer. Braked and capable of gross weight of 1500kg. The Shetland weighs less than 900kgs.
The trailer was expensive, the one the boat came with was not up to scratch. Rollers are fine, wheel bearings are fine, the winch is fine. All very well looked after and used for river launch and storage. Has built in lighting board, all works as they should. Other stuff - As is always the case she is not perfect, there are a couple of fettling jobs.
The bilge pump can be temperamental, as can the lights (only used in daylight by me/us and so it has not bothered me) could just be bulbs. The seat cushions inside the boat are original and fine, you could recover if you wanted. The seat covers up top are dated and a bit scruffy, functional and ok but could be modernised. The skippers seat has a scuff and is worn through on one edge, again, different people will have a different view about how important this is. I will include the Garmin satellite navigation unit in the sale, it does lots of things but clearly hardly used at all by me due to river use.She has Nav lights but as above, not all work. Fenders and a couple of mooring lines, boat hook, oars, anchor, included in sale. There is a CD/radio wired in.
You are welcome to view and I can start the engine in a tub for you to see/hear running. Near Gloucester, not far from M5 and M50 motorway junctions. In short, cracking little boat ready to go and have some fun with! Any questions let me know, I will try and help. Unfortunately I cannot accept Paypal.
