The Boat This Sports / Cabin 18ft cabin 4 berth boat, is happy as river use or sea use, and is extremely capable in rough sea, this model was very well built, and these are extremely strong hulls. Never ever buy a painted fibre glass boat that is potentially hiding faults. Inside she comes with a toilet, cooker sink and a table that can be put up or down or used for sleeping accommodation. The inside is clean and well looked after. To the forward end there is a hatch that can be opened, so you can fall asleep while looking up at the stars above at night. The Engine/Heart of any boat The engine in any boat is a critical factor of any boat purchase, get it wrong and you can be left stranded at sea with a big repair bill, remember there is no AA Service at sea, and you can't push a boat home. Engine choice, there are two types of boat engine, Outboard and Inboard engines. Outboard engines are far more reliable and cost effective than inboard engines, hence why in the US most boats up to 40ft are now outboard powered.
She is powered by a very powerful, fuel injected V4 Evinrude engine 115hp, with power trim and tilt, that runs like a sewing machine (no carburetors to worry about that need cleaning and tuning every year). This engine has been fantastically reliable for us, and Evenrude are known for thier bullet proof reliability. Because of this, it can get this boat on the plane effortlessly being a powerful V4 115 hp engine. Being such a powerful engine we have easily towed people on the back with water toys etc, and also water ski off the back. We also on one occasion, have towed a broken down, 50ft cruiser, back from the Isle of Wight with her.
Likewise she can also be docile and happy cruising up the Wareham river at 4 knots, when we slept over. The gearchange from forward or reverse goes in lovely, with no crunching or snatching like a lot of outboard engines do. Just put fuel in, look after, and enjoy. Trailer The trailer is a Factory Built, Galvanised Indespension roller trailer, and is easy to use for launching and recovery, and tows really well on the back of our car. The winch is a two gear type, so winching the boat back on after the weekend, a lot easier.
