17-foot Open Western Isles Type Grp Fishing Boat & Well-Mounted Yamaha Outboard

(NO RESERVE ) Open fishing boat of 17' (5.1m) LOA and 6' (1.8m) beam (at the rowlocks). Displacement Hull is GRP, quite a heavy lay-up with a heavy keel. Wooden gunwales. Thwarts and deck covering the stern bilge area are made of Iroko. Her shape is somewhat 'waisted' - rather like an oversize skiff - so she has a small, tight transom.

The outboard engine is held in a well, this helps maintain the overall chine look. It is believed that the original blank was a retired clinker built fishing boat from the Western Isles and although GRP, she retains some of that original character. Either side of the engine are lockers for the battery etc. And there is also a bow locker for the anchor and chain (also some ballast). There are covered openings to the forward bilge which allow cleaning and also hold some ballast.

Overall she will take some 1/2 ton of ballast (lumps of iron). This keeps her very steady in the water - an excellent fishing platform. The engine is a Yamaha 9.9hp - four stroke, Super-Thrust, electric start from 1999. It was designed for much larger sailing yachts that have no inboard. There is plenty of power with a prop that is designed for 6 knot max speed.

This gives the engine a lot of torque and matches the displacement hull well. The engine is very quiet running. All fixings are either copper, stainless or bronze - except for the rowlocks and two plastic cleatsRoad trailer was custom-built by Tyrone Snell Trailers in 1999. It has a manual winch and was recently fitted with new suspension, wheels and tyres for the 130-mile journey from Cornwall to Somerset. There is also a Lowrance fish finder - a simple model - (not colour) - but, very effective.

There is also all the usual running gear - ropes, chain & anchor etc plus oars of a size specially made for her.
